Commenting on an old Tom Petty song

Do people in the new generations who are really only about 16 or 17 now , born in 2000, really still dig these songs? To me I still love them; but they also all sound like almost painfully old now, and its weird because ,in 2003 and 2004 etc, wen I was 16 myself, these songs literally sounded more or less brand new. Like they were a little old then but now they're really old. You have to think , if you're only slightly under 30 like me: when we first found this song in the year 2004 or so, it was only 10 years old. I dont know why but that seems striking to me: "Really? It was only 10 years old when I found it??" 50 Cents in Da cluib is 14 years now, just to put that into perspective. This song was essentially still relatively new when first I found it...... Again, it wasnt exactly the hippest song on the market and a lot of people heard the age in it even then, but it was more or less still a totally cool and even sort of new sounding song. Like I can remember pretty hip people in town thought it was the greatest song of all time "back then". Now its instead on that leg where its about to pass into orbit and become as old as Zeppelin was in the middle 1990s. And of course the truth about Zeppelin is that they were considered too old for most in the 2000s, being 30 years old. This song is now of course basically that age. I guess its just really weird to sit here watching these songs pass away into that part of the star system, you know? I think it stands out particularly with Petty since he was a sort of throw back artist the entire time. Nirvana for instance, I tend to think they might still sound relatively "new" to a lot of ears -- but I cant tell anymore. Thats the part thats truly strange about it: You get to a point and you cant hear the age in the song that the young people are hearing. I Guess I am sort of starting to hear it sometimes in the Nirvana songs . When it comes to something like 50 cent of course I cant hear it at all yet. In da Club still seems sort of risque to me as it did then, which is ridiculous. Another 5-10 years and that song will be 25. Then of course it will sound , I am sure, totally absurd. Sad.
