Bambina's weird back story

Bambina fixed her skirt, staring straight ahead at the wall in front of her. Soft music was playing on a radio nearby which was helping to keep her a bit calm. She was very angry, deep down, over what Gao Deng had done to her. He had betrayed her -- at least that was what she believed -- and that was the end of it. Gao had promised himself to Bambina. It didn't matter if she was only 18 years old, and he was only 20. He had promised himself to her, for life, he had said he would even give her a baby, and now where was he? He was gone. Back to his little village to be with his family. Birabuchi was what he called the village. "It's so beautiful. I wish you could come, and live there with me. Bambina you don't know how much I wish it!"

But, of course, Bambina would never see Birabuchi. She was an outcast and always had been. Her ablities with water, which she could not tame, were the cause of it. All she wanted was to be normal. Instead, what was she? She was a freak. A girl who would never just be a normal human woman. A girl who would now, shortly, be shipped off to Zen University, a place she didn't fuly understand, or even want to go. Bambina had dreams that were far beyond university. She wanted to play her piano and her magical guitar. She wanted to sing! To dance! In the bars and the night clubs. To see a city like Tokyo or Shanghai, or Paris or New York, and get a chance to one day be a star, like all her favorite singers. She wanted to follow in the footsteps of the plotline of her favorite book, The Dark Rainbow. Bambina would always remember the first time she opened the pages to that mystical, mysterious book. Life was better inside of it, for the characters she read of, who lived in it. The daring Mo Yahui! Beautiful Lai Juan! Bambina wanted to be like them. She wanted to look like they did, in the illustrations. Much of her body, in fact, she had attempted -- sometimes in strange ways - to surgically alter, to look like theirs. Most of the surgery Bambina engaged in, it was all purely illegal. Street surgery. Some thought of her as ugly now because of it. Maybe hideous. "She's botched!" She didn't see botched when she looked into the mirror, however. She saw something a bit closer to what Mo Yahui looked like. That's what she saw.

She looked towards the window, outside the office. It was a dreary day. Rain had been pouring down all morning, and now here it was coming again. Water. How Bambina hated it! How she hated her stupid ability. Why couldn't she just be normal? What the heck would she really find at Zen University? From what she had read, it sounded like a strict place. She'd have a role there. She'd be a freshman. She'd have to ... gosh the thought was ghastly...she'd have to actually study her ability. She had watched some videos online of the so-called espers. Did they look like they did some cool stuff? Sure. Maybe. But who cares! Better off just being a normal woman. Having babies. Dancing at the club. Cooking for her husband. She wiped a little tear that fell from her eye, as her thoughts drifted again to handsome Gao Deng. He had been the first Asian boy Bambina had ever persuaded to actually pay attention to her...

Now he was gone. And now she was alone. Again. Waiting to go to some university filled with freaks and weirdos. Would her guitar even be allowed there?
